Clermont stands in Lake County about seven miles west of Oakland and noticeably above the surrounding lakes, on ground that rises as you leave the shore.
The city expanded quickly from the 1990s onward, and the great majority of that growth heats with an air-source heat pump rather than gas, a break from the older towns to the east.
Elevation has a cost in winter. The cold hours before sunrise run a few degrees under Oakland's, which pushes systems onto their resistance elements more often and makes sizing mistakes visible on the handful of nights that matter.
When a house cannot hold its set point on the coldest morning, the answer is usually a balance problem rather than a broken component: the compressor side, the element bank and the ducts are sharing one load and one of them is short. Temperature rise across the air handler and static pressure in the trunk are measured before anything is condemned. Near the Citrus Tower and the older streets by Lake Minneola the weak link is more likely ductwork; on the hillside subdivisions it tends to be controls and staging. Lake County reviews the permits.
